Road to the 2028 World Championships
The Canadian Foosball Federation selects Team Canada through a transparent, performance-based system. Three pathways lead to earning a spot at the 2028 ITSF World Championships.

Three Pathways to Team Canada
Each pathway operates independently. A player can qualify through any one of them.
World Championship Title
Win a WFT World Championship in your discipline. Champions crowned within the last 10 years automatically earn a spot on Team Canada.
Candidate's Tournament
Earn an invitation through strong performances at National Series or approved tournaments, then win your event at the Candidate's Tournament (anticipated late 2027).
Points Race
Accumulate points across approved tournaments worldwide. Your best 9 results count. The race concludes 4 months before the World Championships.

Tournaments are graded by size, prestige, and table diversity. Higher-graded events award more points.

* An ITSF major refers to a Master or International Series tournament held in a top-4 ITSF-ranked country, in either a multitable format or on that country's home table from the 2025 World Cup. The CFF may add other events to this list.

What Counts Toward Your Total
Not every finish counts. These rules ensure balanced representation across events, locations, and table types.
Best 9 finishes count toward your total
Maximum 4 finishes per calendar year (starting 2026)
Maximum 2 finishes from the same city per year
Maximum 6 finishes on the same table type
Maximum 6 finishes from Canadian tournaments
1 finish per tournament per event category
Tie-Break Procedure
If the points race results in a tie: 1) Number of events won → 2) Number of podiums → 3) Number of events entered
The points race concludes 4 months before the World Championships.
Candidate's Tournament
An invitational multitable tournament anticipated for late 2027.
How to Get Invited
1. Finish as the highest-placing candidate at a Canadian National Series preliminary event
2. Place in the top 3 at a preliminary event at an S-grade tournament (32+ participants)
3. Win a preliminary event at an A-grade tournament (32+ participants)

Special Rule
If a National Series tournament doesn't offer a women's or senior event, the highest-finishing eligible player in the corresponding open event receives the invitation instead.
